Sea Otter Classic arguably kicks off the 2013 international calendar in the US. Alongside the racing, the expo is a place for media, riders, sponsors and supporters to connect and promote their 2013 products and programs. NoTubes co-owner Cindy Koziatek, the PA contingent of Mike and Rich, and SLC Mark took the time to hang out with the team for a great weekend of racing and communing. Nina, Amanda, Mical, Shannon, and Kaila raced the Pro Women’s XC and STXC, and Mical and Amanda also raced Elite Women CX, gracing the podium. Mical narrowly missed taking the win with a chain bounce at the sprint, finishing a strong second. Our lead team mechanic and equipment manager Kenny Wehn, captain of his own NoTubes Masters Elite Team, pulled off the triple W by winning the Cat 1 40+ XC and riding off the front of his 45+ CX race and through the 35+ field to the win.

The Whiskey 50, sponsored by Stan’s NoTubes and promoted by Todd Sadow’s EpicRides, has developed into one of the premier MTB races in US. This year the prize purse on offer was a cool $40k, in equal payout for men and women. With the pro fields stacked (and bigger than Sea Otter!) the contentious USAC/UCI “forbidden races” enforcement decision left many teams deciding at the last minute to recommit to the event. The large money and the postponement of the rule enforcement worked in favor of the Pro riders for the Whiskey 50 event.
After a long drive back from CA and a quick turnaround for the Sprinter Van and crew between race weekends, the team took their Sea Otter stage racing tuned bodies and met up with East Coast rider Vicki Barclay for some hot and dry racing in the forest of Prescott, AZ.. The event began with a town square Fat Tire Crit Friday night, then Saturday preride and the 2000 person start of the Amateur Whiskey. Kudos to Kenny for winning it for the 3rd year in a row, this time riding away from Sho Air Cannondale manager Ty Cady on the climb and using his NoTubes Team F29 to stay away from Cady and 3rd place finisher Josh, also on a Cannondale! http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/whiskey-off-road-2013/amateur-50-and-25-proof/results
In Sunday’s Pro race Mical and Nina were eighth and tenth and in the money. Amanda raced to a solid 14th in the stacked field of short distance racers. Congrats to Mical for a stellar result considering she’s been working up North freezing since Elite Cyclocross Worlds and is just beginning her training! http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/whiskey-off-road-2013/elite-men-and-women-whiskey-50/photos/263346
