Jenny Smith, Transylvania Epic

My husband Brian introduced me to cycling in the spring of 2000. Its one of the best things that ever happened, I’ll ride a bike for as long as I am able during the rest of my life! Cycling has been an amazing passionate adventure. Since turning pro in 2001, I’ve been lucky to compete in cross country, short track cross country, xterra triathlon, endurance events and stage races around the world. Some of my results include 4th  and 6th at xterra World championships, 5 consecutive USA Xterra championship podiums 2006 – 2010 , a  7 x UCI MTB World championship team member,  having won and podium-ed in many international events including 2nd in the Cape epic stage race and 1st in the Brasil ride stage race.

I continue to race  because I love the sport.  I am passionate about representing my sponsors and supporters namely the Stan’s NO tubes elite women teamhttp://www.notubesracing.com/womenselite/) and Griggs orthopedics.

Brian and I are having a baby in May. I am excited and motivated to see where I can take this new experience as an athlete mother. Change is stimulating and good.

Favorite Pre and Post race Food

Before: Salmon or Chicken, potato/sweet potato and cooked veges. For breakfast: eggs, gluten free toast, nut butter  or oats, banana, nut butter and coffee.

After  It just has to meet the  salty, protein’y, bacon’y, avocado’y and fresh criteria. The Twisted Fork restaurant in Gunnison has a Kobe beef burger with pork belly, homemade fries with Sirracha Mayo. It is perhaps the best post race meal ever!

Bike of Choice: Thanks to my NO Tubes women’s elite team and our wonderful sponsors  I’m riding a Cannondale 29er Scalpel, with Stans no tubes wheels, Sram xx drive train, 3t handlebar, magura brakes, crank brother pedals, kenda tires and the  Fizik Arionne Donna saddle. I’m very excited about this full suspension bike for my post baby return to fitness.

Races of Choice:   I am very motivated about 50  – 100 mile endurance events and Stage races. The  Park city point to point (Utah) , Whiskey 50, (Prescott Az) , Ottway Oddessy (Australia) , Leadville 100 (Colorado) and Brasil ride stage race are some of my favorites

Favorite Doctor/Coach/Orthopedic Surgeon:  Dr Griggs wins that competition by not really having any competition!

Favorite Mexican Dish: Roasted green chile’s,  Gluten fee Chile Relleno’s , tamales

What can/do you give back to cycling: I share my enjoyment and passion for cycling by coaching, teaching skills clinics, coaching the Western State Colorado University cycling team. We are putting on a WSCU high school cycling camp this summer July 24-28 – connect and join us!

2013 race schedule:  It is my goal to work on speed, skill and power and to return to fitness with some shorter cross country style events this summer.
I plan to race the new Epic rides Grand Junction 40 mile race in September and the Iceman Cometh 40 mile event in November followed by some CX races and 2014 CX national champs
